We have been looking into using the QuoteValet shopping cart. We have completed the layout. However, the shopping cart seems...lacking. Are there any future updates to improve the "shopping cart"? How are others using this feature (small product sets, commonly sold products, full hardware builds, etc.?). Lastly, the template does not appear to include shipping once the items are added to the cart and updated, is there any way to change that?

You mentioned the Shopping Cart is "lacking". Do you have any specific points to elaborate on that topic?

Through some scripting, it should be possible to add a shipping amount to a document. How would shipping be calculated exactly? How would the system know how much shipping to apply to certain items?

Regarding the current state of the "shopping cart", it is more of a available product catalog. Customers are not able to select a full host of products that are offered, as QuoteWerks website information indicates that would require:

Customer Authentication
What products to display to customers
Product description issues
Pricing/pricing changes
Availability Multiple warehouse shipments
Shipping Costs LTL/Freight
Sales Tax?
Payment Terms/Credit Card, etc.

So in its current state it is a quick order/re-order portal. How are other companies using this as a service to the customers, without the added benefits of a full blown shopping cart like CDW, Amazon, etc.?

Regarding the shipping calculations we have a script currently within our QuoteWerks build that calculates the shipping based on added product. Adding shipping (or tax for that matter) would require additional customization and modification?

Lastly, are there are updates/revisions on the road-map for the "shopping cart"?

Hi Phil,

In your interest of understanding how other companies use the shopping cart, we use it for, as you very well put it, quick order/re-order portal. We offer QuoteWerks support for clients either by 12 month contract or by per hour rates. If a client needs urgent support but does not have a contract, they will have to pay per hour but of course due to the sensitive nature of per hour support, we offer this in blocks of 4 or 8 hours. We have a shopping cart template up to allow our clients to select which package they want (As some clients may choose the 8 hour option to have excess hours left over to spare for future issues).

Once they get into the habit of this, we have clients often ordering the support without reporting to us what the issue is first! It is a powerful tool if utilised correctly.
